Take the opportunity to commemorate ANZAC Day with RSL Surfers Paradise Sub Branch ANZAC Day events this year.
April 25, Anzac Day, is an important national holiday in Australia. It is the anniversary of the first significant battle in which Australian and New Zealander troops participated in the First World War. There are memorial services at dawn and ceremonies at war memorials nationwide. In these respects, Anzac Day allows Australians to reflect on and honour.
Below is the schedule of the ANZAC Day activities of the RSL Surfers Paradise Sub Branch.
ANZAC Day Activities
The Parade
As many people attend the dawn service, make sure to arrive early. It begins with the ANZAC Day Parade, which serves as the focal point of ANZAC Day observances and provides an opportunity to honour and demonstrate solidarity with past and present service members.
The ANZAC Day march comprises current and former members of the Defense, cadets, and other community members. They will gather at 9 Beach Road in Surfers Paradise (outside the subway) around 4:45 am. The Dawn Parade starts on Beach Road at 5 am.
Dawn Service
From 5:30 to 7 in the morning, the Monument on The Esplanade hosts the Dawn Ceremony. On the Esplanade, across from Trickett Street, lies the ANZAC Memorial.
The Dawn Service is a solemn ritual steeped in convention and custom. There will be:
- wreath-laying
- playing the Last Post
- observing a minute of silence
Following the Dawn Service, the Gunfire Breakfast is at the Diggers and Sports Club (formerly Surfers Paradise RSL). Admission is free for individuals with active RSL QLD membership cards; otherwise, there is a gold coin donation.
Main Ceremony
Between 12:00 and 1:00 pm, Cavill Park will host the main ANZAC Day ceremony. After that, there are refreshments at the Diggers and Sports Club. Then at 2:00 pm, the traditional Australian game “Two Up” starts. Australian soldiers invented the game two-up during World War I, and it is now a tradition to play it on Anzac Day at pubs and RSL clubs nationwide.
The annual Anzac Day commemoration draws thousands of people. So that you can quickly attend the ANZAC Day dawn service, book your Gold Coast apartment as soon as possible.
